Description: I have here for sale a RARE book entitled CHRISTMAS TALES, Historical and Domestic by W H HARRISON Embellished with Engravings, by Bacon, Engleheart, Charles Rolls, and Goodyear, from Designs by Richter, Corbould, and J M Wright with A Medallion Portrait of Sir Walter Scott, Bart., published by A K Newman and Company, London, undated, but online research indicates 1835. First edition. Here we have four short stories, not about Christmas, but intended to be an entertainment for those gathered to celebrate Christmas. The stories are: "The Lost Deed"; "The Novice"; "Autobiography of an Ugly Man"; and "The Law's Daughter". The book includes 5 full-page plates; unfortunately, one plate is missing. Brown calf leather patterned boards with a gilt border. Minor marks and wear to the boards with rubbing at the corners. Four raised bands with gilt lettering and gilt decoration on the spine. Gilt lettering has rubbed away. Marbled endpapers and page edges. Gift inscription on the prelim. Browning and foxing to pages. Binding is a little loose, with page 275/276 detached, but all others are intact and the book is in very good overall condition. 280 pages. 16.5 x 10 cm.We have over 2000 items in our Ebay shop on a range of subjects, so please feel free to have a browse and see if anything else takes your fancy.Postage will be by Air Mail outside of UK.
