First edition, two volumes bound in half leather with gilt titles and decorations to the spine. Internally very clean, heavy tanning to the folded map at the rear of Vol I. Both volumes with an envelope addressed to Frederick Augustus King to the front paste down together with 4 printed documents, 2 of them opinions by King about the practice of docking lambs tails or castrating farm animals generally. Other book plates also present. The address labels both Cambridge Independent Press labels. The printed letters are attached to the front paste down and rear end paper of Vol I and just before the appendix of Vol II. Vol I – xv, [1], 684pp, portrait frontispiece, folding map; Vol II – viii, 636pp, frontispiece and 1 plate. Approximately 11 inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine – good condition – gilt titles, four broad raised gilt bands, 6 compartments decorated in gilt. top and bottom of the spines rubbed with loss to the gilt.Joints – good condition – rubbed and worn.Corners – good condition – bumped and worn.Boards – good condition – half leather binding, gilt fillet to the edge of the leather, rubbed marked and worn, marbled paper boards.Page edges – good condition – all lightly tanned.See above and photos.
