Description: This is the April 1826 issue (137-pages) of Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine. A very good copy that I rescued from an old and damaged bound volume of the monthly. Some highlights of this number include: John Wilson opens this number with a 28-page discourse on the topic of Scottish "Streams," brooks and mere trickles really, as his beloved Edinburgh lacks a river. So, this is all about and storied around Wilson's favorite streams and day dreams, some of them musically inspired and scored here along the way. Mary Margaret Busk (11 pages) offers an essay in review of Austrian dramatist Franz Grillparzer's blank verse tragedy, Sappho. With copious extracts. David Stewart's serial novel, The Man-Of-War's Man (Chapter XIX). David Robinson on the stock market disasters (economics) of the day in an essay headed "Public Distress." Robinson also pens an article in this number defending the practice of free trade following the speech of Parliament Member "Mr. [William] Huskisson." George Croly contributes 13-pages on the topic of modern historical "Russia." Much here on Napoleon's retreat from Moscow and the Napoleonic Wars. Henry Thomson contributes a "Letter from London." John Wilson pens another notable "Noctes Ambrosianae," This is #25. 20 pages. There were 71 "Noctes" published in Blackwood's from 1822-1835, most of them authored by Wilson. Other essays. Some author identifications above are drawn from the Wellesley Index, Vol. 1, p. 19.
