This coin more clearly shows the 5 over 4 over 2 than you often see, and has dark field contrasts to lighter silver features that make it more attractive and easier to examine - the so-called "circulation cameo.".The brief history is, the Philadelphia Mint made a set of dies in 1822, but for the quarter its minting runs were finished with several 1822 obverse dies left over. So, in 1824 they reworked them to create the 1824 over 2 quarter series. Then, they found they still had good dies left over! So the next year they reworked them yet again to make 1825 quarters, creating a mystery of what-were-those-overwritten-digits that lasted through much of the 20th century. All this is an interesting insight into a bit of history of our grand old Philadelphia Mint, Federal government dynamics, and who might have run around with this quarter, spending it around until it wore down to modestly good grade level, and then someone saved it for successive collections.
