It ceased publication in 1967. Initially, the Quarterly was set up primarily to counter the influence on public opinion of the "Edinburgh Review". Early contributors included Secretaries of the Admiralty John Wilson Croker and Sir John Barrow, Poet Laureate Robert Southey, poet-novelist Sir Walter Scott, and others. The periodical published reviews of new works, which were often highly politicized and on occasion dismissive. Half bound tan leather on marbled hardboards. Minor wear to the boards. Burgundy title block and number block with gilt lettering and gilt decoration on the spine. Bookplate of Edward Parker of Browsholme in the County of York on the front endpaper. Light foxing/browning on some pages. All pages are firm and the book is in very good condition. 568 pages. 21.5 x 13.5 cm.
