1821 Letters of John Thorp Minister Society of Friends / Quaker Book RARE

Description: Item up for sale is a wonderful antique leather bound book titled "Letters of the late John Thorp, of Manchester, a Minister of the Gospel in The Society of Friends". This book was published in 1821 by Samuel Wood & Sons of Baltimore, MD. Original owner wrote his name on the interior cover and again on a foreword page prior to the contents and yet again on a subsequent foreword page post contents. Written name has bled through to pages following the written name Subsequent owners penned their name on an otherwise blank pre-title page with legible handwritten dates of 1834 visible. Leather cover shows wear and loss around edges, surfaces and corners as you can see in photos. End papers on interior front cover shows tearing along the hinge which has not impacted the stability of the binding which is surprisingly tight considering it's age. Butt and crown of the spine show wear and loss with title square of "Thorp's Letters" present. Book has 252 numbered pages with a few unnumbered pages from the Publisher in the back end. Last few pages of the book show some tearing and loss along paper edges. All pages show yellowing and foxing / brown spotting throughout consistent with age and use. Book measures 7" top to bottom by 4-3/8" wide by 1-1/8" in depth. Amazing rarity that comes fresh to the market after many decades of being housed in a fine private collection.
