1821 Blackwood's Rare issue S.T. Coleridge, John Clare, John Rennie, Others

Description: This is the October 1821 number of Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine. Rare complete monthly issue recently rescued by me from an old damaged bound volume of the magazine. A very good copy of this 200+ year-old number. Marbled edges all around. You won't find another, especially in this nice condition, any time soon. See photo for complete contents. 119 pages. Some highlights I find in this notable monthly issue include: 19 pages of letters open this issue from the pen of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. See photo #2. The "Monthly List of New Publications" notes the appearance of "Northamptonshire Peasant" poet John Clare's early work, in two volumes, The Village Minstrel and Other Poems. Unsigned narrative of a report headed "The Buried Alive." "R.T." translates (more or less) verse headed Hans Beudix from the pen of late 18th Century German poet and translator Gottfried August Burger. R.F. St. Barbe contributes an essay he calls "Meteorological Observations Extraordinary." This on the current crop of English and Irish poets of the day including Thomas Moore, Byron, Wordsworth, Rogers, Coleridge, Walter Scott, Leigh Hunt, etc., describing their works in meteorological terms. John Howison's story, "The Floating Beacon." John Galt's "Mrs. Ogle of Balbogle." Five new poems from the pen of "Delta" (D.M. Moir). He also contributes a new sonnet, Midnight Despondings. A full page letter clarifying an instance of the work of historian and philosopher David Hume, from his nephew and Scots namesake "David Hume, Esquire." Author Thomas Hope contributes a letter taking Lord Byron to task for commentary the poet made in regard to Hope's novel, Anastasius.. Back cover obituary (1/2 page) of the "celebrated" civil engineer John Rennie. Numerous other works of fact and fancy, history, pages of Military Appointments, Promotions, Commercial Charts, Births, Deaths, etc. See contents photo.
