Description: This is the complete review of the first English edition of the official journals of the Lewis & Clark Expedition extracted from Volume 12 of the Quarterly Review published in 1814. The first English edition of the journals reviewed here was titled Travels to the Source of the Missouri River and Across the American Continent to the Pacific Ocean. Performed by Order of the Government of the United States, in the Years 1804, 1805, and 1806 and was published by Longman and Co. of London. Apocryphal accounts of the expedition had appeared in print previously but this three volume set was based on the official report edited by Nicholas Biddle and Paul Allen and first published in the United States in 1814. The first English edition was edited by Thomas Rees and "the only liberty that has been taken with the language, has been merely the correction of a few inadvertent grammatical or typographical errors" This is the complete 52-page review that appeared in Volume XII of the Quarterly Review comprising pages 317 to 368.
