Collated, complete.This lengthy blank verse poem, reflecting on the landscape of the countryside, was highly influential and much liked for at least a century after its writing. The poem was published one season at a time, Winter in 1726, Summer in 1727, Spring in 1728 and Autumn only in the complete edition of 1730.The poem proved to be influential, and inspired works by the likes of Joseph Haydn, Thomas Gainsborough and J. M. W. Turner. With an inscription, dated 1896, to the front free endpaper. CONDITION In a straight grain morocco binding. Externally, smart, with discolouration and light rubbing to back strip, and boards bright. Joints starting, but firmly held. Inscription to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Title page a touch age toned, with pages otherwise generally clean and bright.
