Year: c. 1880 (This print is from the 1800's it is NOT a modern print.) Reference: Bartsch 235, Lugt. 2934Dimensions: Image Size 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches. Framing: Gallery Matted and Framed in a New Solid Wood MouldingFramed Dimensions: Approximately 12 x 13 inches. Additional notes: This master etching also has Amand Durand's stamp on the reverse which can be referenced by Lugt. 2934. Most of the original Durand prints from the 1800's do not have the Lugt stamp on the reverse which makes this a rarity. We have been collecting and selling Amand Durand prints for more than 25 years. The earliest date we have seen the stamp used was right around 1876. Durand's original prints continue to set the bar for the highest quality we have seen and are coveted by serious collector's. Additional notes: Canal with an angler and two swans; landscape with a hill in the background with a village with tower behind a row of trees at its foot, a meadow in the center with three cows and a man, a canal in the front with two swans in the water on the left, and two fishermen sitting on the shore on the right. Artist Biography: Rembrandt van Rijn was a Dutch Baroque painter and printmaker, one of the greatest storytellers in the history of art, possessing an exceptional ability to render people in their various moods and dramatic guises. Rembrandt is also known as a painter of light and shade and as an artist who favored an uncompromising realism that would lead some critics to claim that he preferred ugliness to beauty.
