This versatile necklace has thick wheat chain segments in yellow gold alternating with white gold segments that look like popcorn chain but which are actually more like hollow mesh,only made of tiny ball bead strands, fused together to create a soft, flexible (but not collapsible) tube. The mesh segments are great because you get the money savings of hollow construction without losing durability. The wheat links also feel like they might be hollow, but they're not flimsy. (We call it "hard hollow" and it's your friend when gold prices are high.) The closure is a good-sized bolt ring, allowing you to wear the necklace with the clasp in front as a fob holder. The eye ring is stamped "14Kt ITALY CX." There's a story taking off on the internet that "CX" means 14 karat gold. Not sure if this is true but it sounds like something that got posted once and is now getting recycled as gospel. There's also a CX Jewellers based in Canada that sells jewelry made in the United Arab Emirates, of all places. Our theory is that the" CX" on this chain is for Comex International Trading, a Los Angeles-based wholesaler and importer that specializes in hollow chains. However, this is just a guess.
