Description: 17th Century Dutch Frisian Chest Coat Rack Shelf Conversion Antique. This is an amazing old piece. It’s been beaten and bandied but boy if it’s not beautiful. The story is that it came out of the home of an old witch in Concord, MA. Concord being one of the nations older towns it makes sense this very old piece would come out of it. The folks who have seen it that know more than me say 17th century or possibly 18th century. They say likely European rather than American. They say it was once a proud Frisian chip karved trunk/chest. It’s now a fragile old coat rack. It’s been glued, it’s been screwed and it been overall mismanaged but the fact this much of it has survived is great. It looks beautiful hung on a wall. I wouldn’t want to hang heavy jackets from it but gloves, hats, windbreakers, and other lighted things are fine. You could technically place Knick knacks on the upper “ledge”. Hopefully a skilled person will acquire it and strip the glue and screws away to clean its look up a bit. Even as is its a treat to own though. I’ve had it serval years and need to downsize a bit. I hope it will find a good new home. Pennsylvania Dutch country would be a nice place place for it to end up but sellers can’t be choosers. It’s just shy of 28” long and around 7.5” high. Some may think the starting bid is high but you’re not going to find another one and while it’s book value might not be a fortune, it will give you a priceless amount of joy. Some of the pegs aren’t ultra sturdy despite the glue and screws. Otherwise it’s as it looks. Please examine all photos. Ships ASAP! Long handling time is only to ensure proper box is found. Will likely ship way sooner and faster. P.S. someone mentioned it could possibly have been a Frisian spoon rack at one point rather than a trunk piece. Apparently these can go for massive money. The speculation is also that it is European. However if someone knew it was indeed a spoon rack and had a feeling it was American instead of European they might speculate it’s worth a small fortune. Just food for thought.
