Description: Welcome to Earlycoppercoins! I am the owner, Shawn A. Yancey, and I am a member of ANA and Early American Coppers, EAC #4647. I am pleased to offer the following item: From the New Cumberland Collection of 1793-1814 US large cents, complete by Sheldon Variety S-1 through S-295 including several NC varieties! NCC-193: 1798 S-178 Draped Bust, Reverse of 1795/1796 with Single Leaves, R5+, PCGS AG3, EAC AG3. PCGS says AG3 and they got it right! The obverse is a point higher and at least G4, while the reverse is a point lower at FR2. So G4 over FR2 = net AG3 and we are back where we started! The obverse features a nearly full LIBERTY, outlined portrait, faint but visible die crack extending upward from the bust tip, and additional fine horizontal die cracks through the date, which is quite bold for this grade. The reverse is weaker as usual but you can clearly see the single leaves at the top if you rotate the coin under a light. The only tiny defect is a rim bump at K4 obverse which is now 100% obscured by the PCGS holder. PCGS AG3 S-178 Reverse of 1795 New Cumberland Collection #36008.03/47927460. Ex-Jim Long 09/27/97.
