Description: I have here for sale a book entitled THE SEASON by JAMES THOMSON with his LIFE, an INDEX and GLOSSARY. Dedication to the EARL of BUCHAN and NOTES TO THE SEASONS by PERCIVAL STOCKDALE. This FIRST EDITION was published in 1793 by A.HAMILTON, London. With an engraved frontispiece by RAMSEY and READING, title vignette and chapter vignettes. Provenance: Colonel Sandys bookplate and hand written inscription by him to his daughter on free front fly leaf. List of subscribers. Bound in full leather boards. With repair to the spine at some stage, crude linen spine. Red block to the spine with gilt title lettering. Board edges are worn. Hand marbled endpapers. Bookplate from Colonel William Sandys to the inside of the front board. Tear with loss of half of the lower front fly leaf. Foxing and staining to the frontispiece and title page. The pages are generally clean and bright, the book is tightly bound with no loose or missing pages. xxiv, 22, notes, 223-227pp; 25cm x17cm. Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped.
