The coins struck from September of that year through January 1794 display Joseph Wright's interpretation of Liberty as depicted on Augustin Dupre's famous Libertas Americana medal. Before the Liberty Cap series ended in 1796, Robert Scot and John Smith Gardner would also create their own renditions of this basic design. This series includes many popular, and several rare varieties. Assembling a complete set of all known die marriages is certainly one way to approach the subject of collecting Liberty Cap Cents, but it is a formidable task due to numerous "stoppers."
