It contains 15c John Paul Jones stamps with Scott numbers 1789 and 1789A. The set does not include the extremely scarce 1789B perf. 12 x 12. Scott 1789 is perf. 11x12 and 1789A is perf. 11. Bradbury Thompson designed the stamps featuring the naval commander and quote "I have not yet begun to fight." The stamps are based upon a famous painting my Charles Wilson Peale. They were issued Sept. 23, 1979 as part of the continuing American Bicentennial celebration. Fifteen cents paid the USPS First Class 1 oz letter rate from May 29, 1978 until Mar. 22. 1981. The perforation varieties were included in the Scott Catalogue Major Number additions of 2001.
