Description: 1787 Nova Caesarea, New Jersey copper. The obverse show a horse's head to the right, over a plow. This variety is called the "serpent head" type , as the horse representation is a bit different in style, and resembles a serpent or maybe dragon head as much as a horse. The motto around the obverse is "NOVA CAESAREA" with the date, 1787, at the bottom center below the plow. The reverse shows a United States type shield in the center, and the first use of the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM", (From many, one.) The reverse lettering is light at the edges, as was likely the case when struck. The surfaces are mostly medium to dark brown, with a little scattered porosity texture.
