Description: For offer, a superb example of an 18th Century sterling silver pepper pot by 'Charles Hougham'. Of baluster shape, with a twist design finial to the pierced top, plain body with three initial monogram engraving, and rising pedestal base, all in all in a typical Georgian form. Hallmarked to the underside base hollow for the London assay office, with year date letter of a lowercase "i" for 1784, and makers mark of "CH" for 'Charles Hougham', the pierced lid also has the sterling silver 'Lion Passant' mark and 'CH' maker's initials. The condition is very good to excellent, the removable top is a good firm fit, there are a couple of minor dings to the wide part of the body nothing too traumatic at all, the hallmarks are unworn and crisp, predominantly due to their location, with the owner's engraved initials being clear and legible.
