Description: FOR the complete story, FULL DETAILS and BIG CLEAR PICTURES, Please SEE THE DESCRIPTION 1781 REVOLUTIONARY WAR Congressional COMITIA AMERICANA Daniel Morgan AWARD MEDAL Description This is a beautiful, high relief, “Comitia Americana” or American Congress Medal that was awarded by the “Continental Congress” on March 9, 1781 to Brigadier General “Daniel Morgan” for his actions at the “Battle of Cowpens” on January 17, 1781.   Morgan commanded at Cowpens and by his strategy of retreat and then spin and attack, turned the enemy and made them flee. The pursuit gave them no time to rally and the stinging British defeat was a turning point in the war. They lost 100 dead 200 wounded and 600 taken prisoner. The American losses were 12 killed and 60 wounded.   During the Bicentennial celebrations the United States Mint restruck these medals in Pewter using the original dies. This is one of them. The original was voted by the Continental Congress and was produced and struck in France. It was designed and signed by Augustin Dupré.   Weight: 21.03 Grams, 38 Millimeters, Pewter. "A Guide Book to United States Medals and Tokens" by Katherine Jaeger. (General Reference). It was between forces under U.S. General Daniel Morgan and British forces under Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton, as part of the campaign in the Carolinas. The battle was a turning point in the American reconquest of South Carolina from the British.   Reverse: VICTORIA LIBERTATIS VINDEX. • Victory, guardian of liberty. • In exergue: PVCATIS CAPTIS AVT CAESIS • AD COWPENS HOSTIBVS • XVII.
