It is a first edition, published in London in 1770 and is written in French - but no further information about the publisher as the book could have been construed as anti-Governmental. Abbot Galiani presents here his ideas on the interdependence of agriculture, manufacturing and the number of inhabitants, ideas opposed to those of the Physiocrats. Galiani's text, written directly in French, was revised by his friends Diderot and Grimm for style. It is a scathing attack on the physiocrats and their policies, and surely one of the most brilliant and profound policy tracts ever written . Ultimately, what was the most important in the Dialogues was their methodological significance, with regard to the complex relationships between economic theory and policy, and the importance of the historical-institutional dimension. Galiani provided the first profound criticism of deductive theorizing in economics from an historical standpoint.Bound in full mottled calf leather hardboards with gilt bands and tooling and small title lettering to the spine.
