1757 French Trade Tax Broadside - French islands & colonies of America .5% Duty

Description: Original Document, not a reproduction - this is on hand-made vellum paper. This comes with a 1940s typewritten statement that includes "Purchased through Driscoll (Sotheby-Harnsworth Nov '48." 1757 imprint date Arrest Du Conseil D'Etat Du Roy Trade Broadside detailing and establishing trade duties and collection rules for packetboat service with French Colonies and with the American Colonies. This one is in Very remarkable condition. Folded neatly into quarters. Obviously stored securely for hundreds of years. Small amount of edge wear. Extremely high paper quality. Roughly 16" x 20 1/2." The printing press impression is VERY VERY vivid. You can run your hand across this and feel the raised print on the reverse. Roughly translated: "Which orders the continuation of the collection of the duty of half a cent, for merchandise coming from the French islands and colonies of America." Untrimmed edges, large woodcut French royal arms at head of text. A remarkably well-preserved item. Intended to be posted in market areas.
