Description: I have here for sale a book entitled PARADISE LOST A Poem in Twelve Books by JOHN MILTON Volume the First. The Second Edition with Notes of various Authors by Thomas Newton printed for J and R Tonson and S Draper; and S Birt, C Hitch, J Hedges, etc., etc., London, in 1750. John Milton (1608-1674) wrote his epic poem "Paradise Lost" in 1667. It is written in blank verse, consists of 12 books, and was written at a time of immense religious flux and political upheaval. This volume includes the first six books, each book accompanied by a full-page b/w illustration.Brown leather boards with the front board missing and the rear board with a series of gouges to the leather. Five raised bands on the spine with gilt lettering and a gilt number I. Wear to the leather at the top and bottom and along the hinge with the rear board. Browning to title page and rear endpapers with slight browning/foxing to pages. All pages are firm and the book is in very good internal condition. The Life of Milton: lxxxv pages; A Critique on the Paradise Lost by Mr Addison: 21 pages, followed by the first part of the poem covering 510 pages. 21 x 13 cm.
