The Jacobite Rebellion, was an attempt to depose king James II. In this work, Fielding warns of the implications of the rising lead by the Roman Catholic, Charles Edward Stuart. Fielding continued to write works against Charles Edward's attempts to usurp the throne. His weekly paper 'The True Patriot: And the History of Our Own Times' continued until the defeat of the Pretender at the Battle of Culloden. It was pro-Government titles such as this which gained Fielding the position of Justice of the Peace in 1748. A smartly preserved, very bright copy of this work. Held in a lovely quarter morocco case. ESTC no. T89830. This was the only London edition published in Fielding's lifetime, and it is probably that this is the only printing where he is likely to have approved the text. A contemporary source regarding one side of public opinion during the Jacobite Rebellion. CONDITION In paper wraps. Held in a cloth chemise and a quarter morocco clamshell box. Box is rubbed to the joints with the front board loosening. Externally, the wraps have a few light spots. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with just the odd light spots.
