Description: On offer: an original (i.e. not a later reproduction) antique map "A Map of Devon Shire. West from London.". Includes a panel of text on the left which describes the county's towns and cities including the dates of markets and fairs and numbers of M.P.s. Offered with outline colour. DATE PRINTED: 1742 (dated 1742 on the print, the date of engraving). SIZE: The printed area including titles is approximately 15 x 15.5 cm, 6 x 6 inches (small) plus margins with a centre fold as issued. PROVENANCE: Published in 'Chorographia Britanniae', London: W. H. Toms. Drawn and engraved by Thomas Badeslade and William Henry Toms, respectively. This little atlas first appeared in 1742 and continued to be issued until c.1750. TYPE: Antique copper plate engraving printed on paper. VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank. CONDITION: Good. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase.
