The flight of the prototype took place 1980, and the machine entered service in 1985. Approx. 100 helicopters of this type were built under production. The drive was originally provided by two engines Lycoming LTS-101-750B-2, and currently Turbomeca Arriel 2C2-CG. The length of the helicopter is 13.5 meters with a main rotor diameter of 11.9 meters. The maximum take-off weight is up to 4,300 kilograms. The Eurocopter HH-65 Dolphin was developed for the US Coast Guard to replace the Sikorsky HH-52A Sea Guard in service. The machine is a development of the AS365 Dauphin helicopter. Compared to its predecessor, it differs mainly in the use of different engines, different avionics and slightly changed aerodynamic properties.
