Description: Beautiful antique polychromed wooden panel Renaissance, 16th/17th century, probably Spain Polychrome wooden relief most likely depicting San Blas (Sint Blasius, 316 AD) San Blas used to be a doctor, he was appointed bishop by the will of the people and not by the Vatican. He entered a prison by bribing the prison guard to bless an illustrious parishioner who was to be executed the next day. I think that is the scene depicted here.... He also died a martyr in the time of Diocletian. Spanish school, late 16th, early 17th century. Dimensions: 42.5 x 73 cm.
