CONDITION/TECHNICAL: Trimmed to near the image line. Minor nick at top left corner. Printed on thin, laid, chainlined paper typical of the late 16th/early 17th centuries. Latin titles and captions. An evenly inked, early example, all of the detail is crisp and clear, with excellent tonal contrast. The item comes from the "Evangelicae Historiae Imagines" of Hieronymus Natalis (Nadal), an important Jesuit Counter-Reformation treatise first published in 1593. Sheet measures 9 inches high x 5.75 inches wide This fine series, which features engravings by Hieronymus Wierix, his brothers Anton and Jan, Karel Van Mallery and Adriaen Collaert features in virtually every Print Museum collection.
