Description: Several Paramount TV shows in the 1970's filmed "special episodes" for the US. Treasury's "Savings Bonds" campaign - and they were shown in schools, at community meetings, and anyplace else they could convince people to "invest in United States Savings Bonds". This one was for the show Kate McShane and was filmed before production abruptly ended in late 1975, as the series attracted a small audience on CBS. Of the 11 episodes of Kate McShane that were filmed; only 9 of them were telecast. CBS cut their losses, and "pulled the plug" in November 1975. Too bad as Anne was a pretty good dramatic actress. ABC scheduled "STARSKY & HUTCH" opposite "KATE McSHANE" on Wednesdays at 10pm(et)- which not only finished her off, it also dealt a knockout blow to NBC's "PETROCELLI" which ironically, was also produced by Paramount. United States Savings Bonds Division presents Kate McShane starring Anne Meara, Sean McClory & Charles Haid in "A Simple Matter of Deduction" with guest star Avery Schreiber. In court, Kate is asked by the judge to defend Uncle Sam (played by Royal Dano) who is charged with selling savings bonds in the courthouse without a license. Kate expresses the benefits of purchasing savings bonds by interrogating historical characters (all played by Avery Schreiber) whom are placed on the stand. Then, Kate calls on the defendant Uncle Sam to take the stand who emphasizes & explains the benefits of purchasing savings bonds. About the print: Faded Color but you could still pull the color back out in a color-corrected film-to-video scan if that is your intention. No Vinegar Smell. Print is complete, runs approx. 15 minutes, and comes mounted on a 600ft. reel. This film appears to be solidly in the public domain. Pictures are all from the actual film being offered and were taken while the print was running on a projector. Film is much sharper than pictures indicate. Some pictures might be more out of focus than others due to the camera used NOT the actual print. We don't ever use stock photos.
