Plant grows to about 6 inches in height and produces bright yellow flowers that bloom from June through July. After flowering, the pads produce bright red fruits that are nearly as attractive as the flowers! Attracts numerous species of bees, beetles, and butterflies. All parts of the plant are edible and have a long history of culinary use by Native American tribes. In Mexico, the pads are commonly found in grocery stores and the fruits are often used to make preserves. Soak seeds for 24 hours, then direct sow in late fall by lightly pressing the seeds into the soil's surface. For spring planting, mix the soaked seeds with moist sand and store in the refrigerator for 60 days before sowing. Please note these seeds are stored in a refrigerator prior to shipping.
