These decals can be used with the 1/48th scale Monogram and Hasegawa Chance Vought F-8J Crusader model kits. Description: The following sheet contains markings for two F-8J aircraft with interesting schemes. Both aircraft are in Light Gull Grey over White, which was the standard color scheme for the gunfighter Crusader throughout its service life. Neither of these planes are CAG birds and are more representative of what most pilots flew. The sheet offers full markings for one of the two subjects. Markings Included For 2 Aircraft: Chance Vought F-8J Crusader, BuAer. 150328 – “Red Lightnings”, VF-194, NM-206, USS Oriskany (CV-34), 1976. After the end of the US involvement in Vietnam in 1973, VF-194 made another two cruises to the Western Pacific aboard Oriskany. VF-194 and its sister squadron VF-191 were the last US Navy fighter squadrons equipped with the F-8 Crusader.Chance Vought F-8J Crusader, BuAer. 149204 – “Devils Disciples”, Flown by Capt Ted C. Niles, VF-301, ND-101, NAS Miramar, 1972. VF-301 went on to Phantoms and then Tomcats before falling to the post Desert Storm axe that hit the Naval Reserve.As with all older decal sets, precaution should be taken.
