(12) Vintage Track Medals Amarillo Relays Odessa College U.I. L. Texas 1960's

Description: For sale are these twelve (12) vintage early 1960's Track Medals. Eight (80 medals that are shaped like a capital A are from the Amarillo (Texas) Relays in 1963, 1962 and 1963. The three (3) medals that are basically round are from a U. I. L. meet held at Odessa (Texas) College. The rectangular pendant is from the Palo Duro (Texas) High School Class of 1963. The University Interscholastic League was created by The University of Texas at Austin to provide leadership and guidance to public school debate and athletic teachers. Since 1910 the U.I.L. has grown into the largest inter-school organization of its kind in the world. U.I.L. member schools are currently divided into six conferences according to enrollment. Conferences, in order of enrollment, are 6A, 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A. As a life long Texan, my recollection is that the 6A conference was added significantly after 1963. All of these were acquired at a recent Texas estate sale along with numerous other track and field medals, ribbons and charms. It is my belief that the student athlete who won these medal attended Palo Duro High School and competed in meets in 1961-1963 many in west Texas (Odessa, Lubbock, Amarillo) and a few in the Dallas area. The medals and ribbons would be perfect for someone who is looking to put together medal with ribbons that are vintage, used and worn. Also they would be great if someone is running his or her own "meet."
