111x67 large Verdure FINE French 18th century Aubusson Tapestry hand woven wall

My suitcases were laden with textile treasures , this is one of those treasures! ~ A fabulous early 18th century ( c1770) French, Aubusson tapestry, one of the most sophisticated, intricately woven tapestries that I've ever found. The scene is wonderful, the tones are saturated and there is a wonderful country scene with dog and deer , this tapestry has the most amazing border I've ever seen. It's backed in green medium weight wool, probably a 19th century addition. For anyone that knows these textiles, it's clear that this is a very very special piece ~ This textile was woven in the eighteenth century France in the town of Aubusson, inspired by Savonnerie carpets, made by a royal staff exclusively for the king. The craftmanship that went in to making this textile is astounding. The world's Finest tapestry weavers copied the techniques and motifs employed by the makers of Savonnerie carpets to make Aubusson tapestries, which had become very popular among the wealthy upper class. Production of the original tapestries ceased after 200 years of work, ending in about 1870. Whenever any new ruler came into power, various kinds of new patterns, designs, and fashion trends got created. Aubusson tapestries are woven on large looms in a tapestry weave true to the traditional French way. This wonderful textile has been cared for over the many years it's hung on a chateau wall. If only this textile could speak. It's survived and it was witness to conversations about the French revolution, American's independence , the fate of Marie Antoinette! Bits of history are embedded in the very threads of this tapestry! The rich tones match it's noble associations. The tapestry is made of wool and all hand worked. Aubusson tapestry look at their best in light, airy rooms, complementing both a modern, minimalist setting or an opulent, grand one! Please message me with any questions, I'm always here to help. The lush, green composition a classic scene with dog and deer~ trees with thick blue and green foliage, Please email with any questions before purchasing, I'm always here to help~*~ MEASUREMENTS : This textile measures approx. 67 inches wide by 111 inches long ~ SO large CONDITION : This textile is in as found condition and not freshly washed. There are some splits in the weave here and there , very common. Overall , this textile is in wonderful condition, however it's not without signs of time and use. You can see the bottom of this textile was a bit too long for photographing on my wall. This tapestry will have to be finessed in place when it's in it's final resting place! I didn't do that to photograph, but it will need to be done when hanging in the final place. There has been restoration on this piece, you will see mends, and the addition of small fragments!~ It gives it so much more charm . There are some small and medium holes in the backing fabric.~ There is a deep cinnamon border that goes around the edges of this border. This was an addition, meaning that it wasn't woven with this border but it was sewn on at sometime in its past ~ That border is splitting all around this piece, so can either be restored and sewn back around the tapestry OR it can be removed and this tapestry have an additional border, or leave it off all together ~ It's important to use the zoom feature on this textile to see the exact condition , not perfect but perfectly wonderful and in fabulous condition for an 18th century textile!
