10th Air Force White Back Patch WWII Vintage China Burma India The Hump

Description: The Patch: This Auction is for 1 WWII Vintage 10th Air Force shoulder patch with a white back. It has a very nice white backing. This patch does not glow under the UV light and is guaranteed to be authentic. The History: The 10th Air Force was activated on February 12th, 1942 at Patterson Field in Dayton, Ohio. It moved to India where its headquarters was set up in Delhi. It established the first supply route over "the Hump" and into China. After the Air Transport Command took the supply routes over, the 10th was assigned to protect the transports. They neutralized Japanese air fields near Myitkyina and other fields in Northern Burma. They attacked Japanese shipping in the Bay of Bengal and laid mines in harbors in Thailand. They continued supplying units, such as General Wingate's Chindits and Merrill's Marauders. By April, 1945 over 300,000 troops depended upon the 10th Air Force for their supplies. In anticipation of an invasion of Japan, the 10th was assigned the task of destroying all enemy Air Forces in the China Burma India Theater. Please read my auction requirements.
