Description: 10+ Seeds New 2024 Crop Quercus Douglasii Acorns - California Blue Oak The Blue Oak tree is endemic to California and is California's most drought-tolerant deciduous oak tree. Named for its bluish-green leaves, it is a medium-sized tree with sparse foliage and a rounded canopy. It thrives in USDA zones 8 - 11 and is native to the hot inland valleys, rolling hills and lower mountain slopes of California. Its leaves are shallowly or entirely lobed 1.5 to 4 inches long, leathery, dull and papery. Its acorns are a food source for many birds and wildlife. You will receive 10+ California Blue Oak acorn seeds (quercus douglasii) from southern California similar to those in the pictures. These acorns are a tear-drop shape with a pointed bottom colored yellow, green or brown and most are approximately 3/4 to 1 inch wide and 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches tall; the seeds from some trees are larger than others. These seeds are the new crop for 2024 and were recently hand gathered from beneath trees I planted years ago. They were cleaned in plain water to float test and expel debris, then air dried. Each acorn was examined and any with obvious cracks or grub holes were removed. These were all "sinkers" on their side in the water when they were cleaned, but the float test is not always reliable, so viability for planting can't be guaranteed. These are just the acorns, no caps and they are seed-quality for planting, as food for deer, squirrels, etc., but can also be used for crafts and décor (they will lighten a little in color as they dry). These acorns are being stored in the refrigerator and will be brought to room temperature before packing. You will receive a couple extra and they will be padded and shipped via USPS Ground Advantage. These acorns are fresh, so if not planted right away, please store in the refrigerator or allow them to dry for crafts.
