Description: Cantaloupe Seeds are hand-packed with care by participants in our Individualized Education Program (IEP) for students ages 18-21. Students learn how to live independently, obtain a job, navigate the community, and access local resources through the program. All sales proceeds go to support this program. This project is supported by SARE.org. The seeds are grown locally.I can't call them organic, because I just grow them for myself and some friends. So I'm not certified Organic. But I do everything as an Organic. I do not use any chemicals on my plants only clean water and air. So they are 100% natural. All seeds are heirloom and no MGO. This means you can plant what you grow the next year and the next year, and the next year.., as I do. I have been doing this about 8 years now, with this seeds. Each year I pick the top three or so fruit and keep the seeds. Unlike the big guys, I pick 1st by taste, I pick last by size. Which one did the kids like, the sweetest and best? This style is not always the best for the stores, because they might not last long, but great if you grow your own and you want to eat it now! Each year I have extra, I only need a hand full, so I donate them to the nonprofit, for this sale. One to help the nonprofit and two to help other start gardens with great tasting home grown fruit. Kind of a win/win... The photo of the cantaloupe in this listing is the cantaloupe I took the seeds from for this listing and what I will use in my garden to feed my family. You will get 25+ seeds to plant. I normally only Plant about 10 seeds at the most. <<< From USA >>> Grown and shipped from Overland Park KS - USA - NOT from China.....FYI - Here is some Gen info on CantaloupeNutrition FactsCantaloupeCantaloupeSources include: USDAAmount Per 1 wedge, small (1/8 of small melon) (55 g)1 wedge, medium (1/8 of medium melon) (69 g)100 grams1 wedge, large (1/8 of large melon) (102 g)1 NLEA serving (134 g)10 cantaloupe balls (138 g)1 cup, diced (156 g)1 cup, cubes (160 g)1 cup, balls (177 g)1 melon, small (about 4-1/4" dia) (441 g)1 melon, medium (about 5" dia) (552 g)1 melon, large (about 6-1/2" dia) (814 g)1 melon, medium (about 5" dia) (552 g)Calories 186% Daily Value*Total Fat 1 g1%Saturated fat 0.3 g1%Polyunsaturated fat 0.4 gMonounsaturated fat 0 gCholesterol 0 mg0%Sodium 88 mg3%Potassium 1,474 mg42%Total Carbohydrate 45 g15%Dietary fiber 5 g20%Sugar 43 gProtein 4.6 g9%Vitamin A373%Vitamin C337%Calcium5%Iron6%Vitamin D0%Vitamin B-620%Cobalamin0%Magnesium16% Supported by SARE ORG - Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Project and The Gifted Learning Project. HOW TO PLANT Cantaloupe SeedsCantaloupe, also known as muskmelon, is a delicious and easy-to-grow warm-season crop that is well-suited to a variety of gardening conditions. Here are the basic steps for planting cantaloupe seeds:Choose a site: Cantaloupe prefers full sun and well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0 to 7.0. They also require a lot of space, so make sure you have a large enough area for them to spread out.Prepare the soil: Work the soil to a depth of at least 8 inches to loosen it and remove any large debris. Add compost or well-rotted manure to improve the soil fertility and moisture-holding capacity.Sow the seeds: Sow the seeds directly into the soil after all danger of frost is gone and soil temperature reaches 70°F or above, about 1 inch deep and about 2-4 inches apart, in a hill. Make sure to keep the soil consistently moist until germination.Water the area: After planting the seeds, water the area thoroughly to help settle the soil and ensure good seed-to-soil contact. Be sure to keep the soil consistently moist until the seedlings are established.Thin seedlings: Once the seedlings are up, thin them to the final spacing of about 2-4 feet apart, depending on the variety you are growing. This will give them enough room to grow and spread out.Wait for germination: It can take about 7-10 days for the cantaloupe seeds to germinate. Be patient and keep an eye on the area, watering as needed to keep the soil moist.Care for seedlings: Once the seedlings are established, continue to keep the soil evenly moist and provide a balanced, slow-release fertilizer if needed. Provide support for the vine as it grows, such as a trellis or fence. Keep an eye out for pests and diseases and take appropriate action if necessary.Harvest: Cantaloupes take about 75-85 days to mature, depending on the variety. They're ready to harvest when the stem slips easily from the fruit, the netting becomes raised, and the fruit has a nice smell. Cantaloupes are mostly water, like many fruits and vegetables. A cup of fresh cubes contains 144 calories, 6% of your daily fiber intake, and no fat or cholesterol. 100% of the daily value for vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that protects your cells from damage All your daily needs for vitamin A, which helps keep your eyes, skin, bones, and immune system healthy. About 12% of your recommended daily potassium, which is important for your heart, muscles, and blood pressure. Cantaloupe is also full of vitamins and minerals.
