That way, the end of the cable can be attached to anything that has a matching 1/2-13" female thread deep enough to accommodate the bolt. The purpose is the allow tension adjustment of the cable itself - such as on fitness exercise machines whereby a cable is attached to the top of selectorized weight stacks. The weight stack will have a standardized 1/2-13 female threaded hole to receive the bolt. The included bolt is used to lock down the bolt after proper adjustment is made.
